Lymphography and the Urologist.

چکیده
VARIOUS radiological methods of demonstrating lymph vessels and nodes have been utilised in the past. Interstitial injection of thorotrast (Menville and Ane, 1932), and contrast injection into lymph nodes (Bruun and Engeset, 1956), into body cavities (Bennet and Shivas, 1954) and into joint spaces have all resulted in some degree of visualisation of a limited segment of the lymphatic system. Detailed study of the pelvic and abdominal lymph nodes, however, was not possible until Kinmonth (1952) described a practical method of intralymphatic injection. He used a water soluble contrast medium to demonstrate the lymph vessels of the legs in cases of lymphoedema. Such media, however, rapidly diffuse out of the lymphatics and for this reason are not suitable for investigation of retroperitoneal lymph nodes. Oily media are necessary for this purpose and have become standard for lymphography (Wallace, Jackson, Schaffer, Gould, Greening, Weiss and Kramer, 1961; Ruttimann and Del Buono, 1962).

Scintigraphy and indirect lymphography Practical aspects
Lymphoedema is a life-long disease which may be improved but not healed by our therapy. Therefore it seems to be desirable to ascertain the clinical suspicion of lymphoedema or to rule out this diagnosis at least once in the life of a patient suffering from chronic swelling of the extremities. The most appropriate methods for that purpose are lymphoscintigraphy and indirect lymphography. Radion...
متن کاملPreoperative Imaging of Sentinel Lymph Nodes in Gastric Cancer Using CT Lymphography
PURPOSE Preoperative identification of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) in gastric cancer (GC) patients may have great advantages for the minimally invasive treatment. This study was performed to evaluate the possibility of preoperative SLN detection using CT lymphography. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fourteen patients with early GC were enrolled. CT images were obtained before and at 1, 3, and 5 minut...
متن کاملNon-contrast 3D MR lymphography of retroperitoneal lymphatic aneurysmal dilatation: a continuous spectrum of change from normal variants to cystic lymphangioma
OBJECTIVE Our objective was to demonstrate the characteristic features of retroperitoneal lymphatic aneurysmal dilatation with three-dimensional (3D) magnetic resonance (MR) lymphography. CONCLUSION Three-dimensional MR lymphography demonstrates that retroperitoneal lymphatic aneurysmal dilatation exhibits a continuous spectrum of change from normal variants to lymphatic aneurysmal dilatation...
متن کاملThoracic duct lymphography by subcutaneous contrast agent injection in a dog with chylothorax
A 4-year-old male Japanese Shiba Inu presented with recurrent chylothorax. The thoracic duct was successfully imaged using computed tomography after the injection of an iodine contrast agent into the subcutaneous tissue surrounding the anus. The thoracic duct was successfully ligated and pericardectomy performed via an open thoracotomy. Pleural effusion improved but relapsed a week after the su...
متن کاملInterstitial magnetic resonance lymphography: the clinical effectiveness of a new method.
The aim of this study is to evaluate effectiveness of interstitial magnetic resonance lymphography as an examination for the depiction of the lymphatic system in humans by comparison with direct x-ray lymphography. We studied 14 subjects (two volunteers and 12 patients with clinical suspicion of lymphedema of the lower extremities). We first administered subcutaneous gadobutrol between the toes...
